I didn't know what to make of this. Some of the humour is very knockabout. The costumes and sets are great, full of ideas and wit, unlike some of the gags.  What I didn't expect is how moving it turns out to be. The pas de deux between Drosselmeyer and the Nutracker is a case in point. Overall, a triumph.

Well, I've watched it again, and i've rarely seen a cultural document with so light touch while being so intellectually dense. Wow! Just watch it and you'll see what i mean.

This certainly isn't the greatest performance of Nutcracker I've ever seen but it is quite different and I found it rather enjoyable.
Well worth watching for a change...
